SomEx℠ ~
Somatic Experiential
Therapy

a cutting-edge modality to heal trauma and addiction that recognizes the profound connection between your mind, body, and emotions. Unlike traditional talk therapy, we go beyond intellectual understanding and delve into the felt sense of your experiences.

In SomEx℠, we utilize the vividness of props and movement to help you access and process deeply held emotions and memories. This experiential approach allows you to release fixed action patterns in a safe, supportive environment.

At the same time, we pay close attention to your bodily sensations. Somatic literature teaches us that trauma and addiction can leave imprints on your nervous system. By attuning to these sensations, we can help you identify and release the held emotional energy in the body related to your lived experience.

SomEx℠ Training Modules

Module I

In this module, participants will learn the basics of somatic therapy. They will gain a working knowledge of the neurobiology of trauma and how the body responds. We will take a deep dive into the neurobiology of resilience as well, and how to help clients have transformative somatic experiences. Participants will get experiential practice using the modality.

Module II

In Module II, we take a deep dive into the history of psychodrama and experiential therapy, learning all of the fundamental aspects of the living stage. We combine the somatic information learned in module one with the historical benefits of psychodrama and experiential therapy together. Participants also get an opportunity to practice this experientially.

Module III

In this Module, participants will gain insight into the ways complex trauma sets up fixed action patterns in the body. We also take a look at the effects of global and intergenerational traumas.  Participants will learn and practice with renegotiating dissociated parts on a neurological level using SomEx interventions and resources.

Module IV

In Module IV, we focus on ways of transforming inescapable trauma, and the principles of healing extreme trauma that we build on from module three. Participants also gain a working knowledge of using SomEx with couples and have the opportunity to practice the modality.
